Moulin Rouge[1] (French pronunciation: [mu.lɛ̃ ʁuʒ], French for Red Mill) is a cabaret in Paris, France.
The house was co-founded in 1889 by Charles Zidler and Joseph Oller, who also owned the Paris Olympia. Close to Montmartre in the Paris district of Pigalle on Boulevard de Clichy in the 18th arrondissement, it is marked by the red windmill on its roof. The closest m�tro station is Blanche.
Moulin Rouge is best known as the spiritual birthplace of the modern form of the can-can dance. Originally introduced as a seductive dance by the courtesans who operated from the site, the can-can dance revue evolved into a form of entertainment of its own and led to the introduction of cabarets across Europe. I am a native of B.C.born in Nelson B.C. and raised in Vancouver. I now call Maple Ridge home. I attended the Vancouver School of Art, as well as the Art Center in Los Angeles, and my interest then was mainly in commercial art. While still in Los Angeles an opportunity arose for me to travel to Europe. As a result, I stayed on and became involved in window design. To fast forward, years later, and back at home in Canada I continued with my art work off and on. In 1996 I was commissioned to create a series of children's jigsaw puzzles with whimsical themes of biblical stories . As a result they have have been sold in Canada and the United States. I believe that it was at this point in time, that I began to love the "whimsical" ...
